Dora
A dark and sensual opera, Dora is based on Sigmund Freud’s Fragment of an Analysis of a Case of Hysteria, the study of a young girl who developed hysterical symptoms in an effort to extricate herself from the sexual “danse macabre” being performed by her father, his mistress, and the mistress’s husband. Freud unmasked the etiology of Dora’s illness, but did not support her resistance. For this reason, she broke off her analysis, becoming the only one of Freud’s patients who disobeyed him.​​

My Undying Love: An Amusement asks the question, What do you think of when you hear the word “play”? Something frivolous? Silly? A waste of time? When children play, they take it seriously. A stick IS a sword, an empty room IS a royal chamber. The stakes are high, and the consequences critical, at least for as long as the game is played. And a game can be more real than the most concrete of realities, and is often more true.
